Alleged nursing errors cause injuries to elderly patient

Being in charge of the daily needs of patients makes nurses a vital part of modern health care. These days, more and more nurses in the state of Oregon and across the country are tasked with duties that traditionally belonged to physicians. More involved and intensive patient care combined with notoriously long shifts increases the likelihood of nursing errors. Recently, a lawsuit was filed in another state after alleged negligent care by nurses left a patient injured.

The lawsuit was filed after allegations that a nursing facility was negligent in the care of a patient. According to the lawsuit, the patient developed several pressure sores due to alleged lack of supervised care. It is common nursing practice to periodically move bed ridden patients to prevent pressure sores.

The nursing staff should have known the patient was at risk of developing the bed sores, the lawsuit claims. The plaintiff alleges that the nursing staff failed to perform routine daily tasks that would have prevented the patient from developing her injuries. The plaintiff seeks damages in excess of $50,000

Nurses, like all professionals in the medical field, have a duty and an obligation to provide patients with a certain standard of care. Long shifts and understaffed facilities, which seem to be more common these days, are just a couple of the factors that can contribute to claims of negligent care. Oregon residents who suffer injuries or the loss of a loved one as a result of nursing errors have the right to take legal action. A successful lawsuit could provide much-needed financial relief for victims and families.
