Patient suffers due to alleged nursing negligence

Nurses oversee the day-to-day care and well-being of their patients, and by doing so, they play one of the most vital roles in health care today. Nurses, like all medical professionals, have an obligation to treat patients with a certain standard of care. When this standard of care is not met, the patient is directly affected and ultimately suffers. In the state of Oregon and all across the country, when the patient suffers injury or death as a result of negligent care, nurses and other care providers can be held accountable. A patient in another state recently lost her life due to alleged nursing negligence and legal action is being pursued.

A lawsuit was filed after claims of negligent care were attributed to the death of an elderly patient. The lawsuit, filed by a companion and personal representative of the estate of the deceased, alleges that the patient suffered a kidney injury and dehydration during her stay at a nursing facility. According to the lawsuit, the facility provided inadequate day-to-day, basic care by neglecting basic needs such as food and liquids, as well as toileting and cleaning.

The plaintiff claims that the alleged negligent care ultimately led to the patient's death. The plaintiff also claims that, during the patient's stay, the nursing facility failed to properly staff providers and kept the family in the dark about the patient's medical condition and health status. The plaintiff seeks a trial by jury, an undisclosed amount in damages and other equitable relief.

Unfortunately, negligent care by medical providers happens more frequently than most people realize. Any Oregon citizen that suffers injury or the loss of a loved due to nursing negligence could benefit from seeking the assistance of an experienced lawyer. A successfully litigated lawsuit could result in damages to ease the pain and suffering associated with such neglect.
