Death of patient attributed to nursing negligence

Nurses play an important role in the care and treatment of patients in hospitals and medical facilities throughout the country. Nurses have a significant amount of contact and interactions with patients and the families of their patients. In today's fast-paced environment, nurses are frequently understaffed and can quickly become overworked and exhausted. As a result, nursing negligence claims in Oregon are becoming more and more common. Recently, a lawsuit was filed against a nursing home in another state alleging that nursing negligence played a role in the death of a patient

According to the lawsuit filed by the daughter of the victim, her mother was a resident of the nursing home for four years and had a history of falling from her bed. The daughter alleges that the nursing home not only neglected her mother but also lied about the cause of death. According to the claims made by the nursing home, during the night of the woman's death, the victim was found unresponsive with her knees on the floor and her chin pointed towards the side rail of the bed. The nursing home stated that the victim's death was from natural causes stemming from the fall from her bed. However, an autopsy later revealed that the cause of death was suffocation as a result of the position of the victim after her fall.

The plaintiff also states that she visited her mother the morning before her death, and the nursing home staff had placed a towel around her mother's neck. She alleges that the towel was placed on her mother's neck to hide the effects of negligent care from the nursing home staff. The plaintiff seeks punitive damages for the negligent care that resulted in the wrongful death of her mother, as well as damages for medical malpractice.

Unfortunately, it seems that skilled registered nurses are being replaced with cheaper, less-trained individuals. This is just one of the many factors attributing to the increased claims of negligent care these days. Those who have been injured or lost a loved one as a result of nursing negligence have the right to pursue legal action. Oregon residents who suffer the loss of a loved one as a result of negligent care could receive much-needed financial relief from any monetary damages awarded from a successfully litigated lawsuit.
