Were you the victim of nursing negligence?

Oregon's nurses are a vital component of the medical community. They are responsible for many of the day-to-day functions of patient care and most of them work hard and have a difficult job. Therefore, when they make a mistake, it can result in the serious injury or death of a patient. Nursing negligence can have an adverse effect on the lives of patients and their families if left unchecked.

Monitoring patients and responding to their calls are a large part of a nurse's duties. If these functions are not performed up to established standards of care, the patients are the ones who suffer. Any number of calamities can occur if a nurse is not paying attention to the patients for which he or she is responsible.

Inattentive nurses could make medication errors, fail to notice when a patient falls out of bed or fail to notice when a patient is in distress. Serious injuries or death can occur from these oversights. Once any such negligence is brought to the attention of the hospital and/or the doctors who supervise them, the behavior should be immediately addressed. If it is not, the hospital and others could also be held responsible for the nurse's actions.

If you suffered serious injury -- or lost a loved one -- to nursing negligence, it may be beneficial to discuss the circumstances with an attorney. It may be possible to file a medical malpractice claim against the nurse and others. If you successfully establish negligence to an Oregon court, you could receive an award of damages for the financial losses you and your family sustained.
